Overview
Yersinia ruckeri is a Gram-negative bacterium causing Enteric Redmouth Disease (ERM) in salmonids such as rainbow trout and occasionally Atlantic salmon. Characteristic signs include haemorrhages in the mouth, eyes (exophthalmia), darkened skin, lethargy and internal bleeding. The disease remains of commercial importance in freshwater and early grow-out phases, and is managed with vaccines in many regions.
