Overview
Photobacterium damselae is a halophilic, Gram-negative rod that causes photobacteriosis (also called fish pasteurellosis) in marine species including sea bass and sea bream. It commonly affects juveniles and adults, with outbreaks often linked to elevated water temperature (>18–20 °C). Clinically one sees fish with abdominal distension/ascites, external haemorrhages, skin ulcers, and internal nodules or necrotic foci in organs such as liver, spleen and kidney.
