Overview
Infectious Salmon Anaemia (ISA) is a serious, immunologically and economically significant disease caused by the orthomyxovirus ISAV in Atlantic salmon, and occasionally in other salmonids. The virus can induce severe anaemia, hemorrhages (internal and external), ascites, swollen liver/spleen, and high mortalities in marine cage production. Because of its high risk, ISA is a notifiable disease in many jurisdictions.
