Salmon Gill Poxvirus (SGPV), Lyophilized qPCR

Overview

Salmon Gill Poxvirus (SGPV) is a large DNA virus that specifically infects the gills of Atlantic salmon, causing Salmon Gill Poxvirus Disease (SGPVD). Clinical signs include severe gill epithelial cell necrosis/hyperplasia, respiratory distress, lethargy, and elevated mortalities in smolt or seawater-transferred salmon. This pathogen poses an increasing concern in aquaculture as it directly impacts the gill function and thus overall performance and welfare of farmed salmon.

The Salmon Gill Poxvirus (SGPV) Probe-based qPCR Kit (Lyophilized) is a ready-to-use, freeze-dried reagent system for the rapid and sensitive detection of SGPV DNA in biological samples.
This assay utilizes a probe-based real-time qPCR approach to ensure high specificity and accurate quantification of viral load, supporting reliable diagnostics and research in fish health and aquaculture disease monitoring.

Each lyophilized reaction bead is pre-formulated with all essential components — DNA polymerase, dNTPs, optimized buffer, and fluorescent probe mix — ensuring consistent performance and eliminating the need for cold-chain logistics.

Key Features

  • Specific and Sensitive: Designed for accurate detection of SGPV DNA using TaqMan-style probe chemistry.
  • Lyophilized & Ready-to-Use: Each reaction bead contains all reagents; simply add nuclease-free water and DNA template.
  • Room-Temperature Stable: Maintain stability for up to 12 months without refrigeration.
  • Fast and Reliable: Compatible with standard real-time PCR instruments for efficient workflows.
  • Convenient Format: Ideal for field testing, laboratories with limited cold storage, and routine surveillance programs.

Applications

  • Detection and quantification of SGPV in fish tissue, cell culture, or environmental samples
  • Aquaculture health monitoring and outbreak investigation (e.g., Salmon Gill Poxvirus Disease (SGPVD))
  • Research use in virology, epidemiology, and vaccine development
