Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis (IPN) is a highly contagious viral disease affecting primarily young salmonids (such as Atlantic salmon and Rainbow trout) during the fry and post-smolt stages, though adult fish may carry the virus asymptomatically. The causative agent IPNV is a bi-segmented double-stranded RNA virus (Family Birnaviridae) that is extremely stable in the aquatic environment and capable of both vertical (egg) and horizontal transmission. Clinically, infected fish can present darkened skin, pale gills, abdominal distension (ascites), and high mortality, especially in younger fish; necrosis of the pancreas is a hallmark on histology. In aquaculture, IPN causes significant economic losses through mortality, reduced growth and latent carrier populations that facilitate further outbreaks.
The Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis Virus (IPNV) Probe-based RT-qPCR Kit (Lyophilized) is a ready-to-use, freeze-dried reagent system for the rapid and sensitive detection of IPNV RNA in biological samples. This assay utilizes a probe-based real-time RT-qPCR approach to ensure high specificity and accurate quantification of viral load, supporting reliable diagnostics and research in fish health and aquaculture disease monitoring.
Each lyophilized reaction bead is pre-formulated with all essential components — reverse transcriptase, DNA polymerase, dNTPs, optimized buffer, and fluorescent probe mix — ensuring consistent performance and eliminating the need for cold-chain logistics.
Key Features
Specific and Sensitive: Designed for accurate detection of IPNV RNA using TaqMan-style probe chemistry.
Lyophilized & Ready-to-Use: Each reaction bead contains all reagents; simply add nuclease-free water and RNA template.
Room-Temperature Stable: Maintain stability for up to 12 months without refrigeration.
Fast and Reliable: Compatible with standard real-time PCR instruments for efficient workflows.
Convenient Format: Ideal for field testing, laboratories with limited cold storage, and routine surveillance programs.
Applications
Detection and quantification of IPNV in fish tissue, cell culture, or environmental samples
Aquaculture health monitoring and outbreak investigation (e.g., Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis (IPN))
Research use in virology, epidemiology, and vaccine development
